Topic of the Day-The Henry Ford Production System

This article is a follow up to the earlier article presented a few months ago at this conference documenting the Henry Ford Hospital production system. It builds upon the principles of the Toyota Motors Production, applying it to a busy surgical pathology department. This article documents the reduction of defects from a baseline of 27.9% defects to 12.5%. The analysis encompassed preanalytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases with the majority of defects identified in the analytic phase.

Case of the Day-Woman with Cellulitis and Unusual Histopathological Findings

This case presented some unique challenges and it was not until a detailed discussion with the dermatologist did I arrive at the correct diagnosis.
