The Twentieth Eosinophil. Adv Anat Pathol 2007;14:340-343. Genta RM, etal.

The diagnostic criteria for the diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) is reviewed and critically compared to the current histopathologic criteria for GERD. The authors conclude that the diagnosis for EE cannot be based solely upon an arbitrary count of esoinophils per high-power field and discuss several diagnostic scenarios that may explain the presence of increased eosinophils within the esophagus.

EGFR Expression As an Ancillary Tool for Diagnosing Lung Cancer in Cytology Specimens.
Mod Pathol 2007;20:905-913. Wei, EX, etal.

Searching for the magic bullet that can distinguish benign from malignant pulmonary epithelial proliferations, the authors utilize a combination of IHC and FISH probes for EGFR, matched with a review of the histopathology. Their results provide compelling support for the use of EGFR as a discriminator in problematic lung pathology and cytology cases.
