Dr. Shitabata reviewed the diagnostic criteria presented in this recent article. Although increased intraepithelial lymphocytosis has been recognized as an early diagnostic aid for the diagnosis of celiac sprue, there are several other important disease states that have been associated with this finding, in the setting of architecturally preserved small intestinal mucosa.
