Case of the Month General Surgical Pathology Uropathology Gynecological Pathology Clinical Pathology

This is a 46 year old woman with a 5 cm tumor on her back.

Soft Tissue Tumor



Image 1-Sections showed a diffuse spindle cell tumor with infiltration
of subcutaneous fat, imparting a honeycomb sieve-like appearance.



Image 2-Higher power magnification



Image 3-Other areas exhibited a prominent storiform and herringbone
configuration.



Image 4-Higher power magnification of storiform and herringbone areas.

Image 5-The mitotic rate was focally increased numbering up
to 7 mf/10 HPF.



Image 6-Other areas of the tumor were less cellular with a myxoid
background.



Image 7-Higher power magnification of less cellular areas.



Image 8-CD34 diffusely and strongly stained the less cellular myxoid areas.

Image 9-However, in the cellular areas, CD34 was negative. Positive internal
control is noted with the benign entrapped blood vessels.
